« Spouse » means the life insured's legal spouse or common-law spouse. A legal spouse means the person lawfully married to the life insured according to applicable provincial legislation. A common-law spouse means a person who is living with the life insured in a common-law relationship.

A common-law relationship is considered to exist when two persons have lived together in a conjugal relationship for at least 12 months or until the earlier of 12 months or the birth or adoption of a child of the relationship.

If your spouse is covered, he or she must meet spousal definition in order to renew the coverage. Please advise us of any changes regarding your spousal status.
